When Strindberg's Plays came out in 1966, Modern Library took the bold step of labeling it "Volume 1." They didn't do this with all other late pairs; for example, the first volume of Tolstoy's Short Stories doesn't imply that a second volume would follow, which it soon did. In this case ML went out on a limb - and then sawed the limb off. There was no Plays - Volume II.
