| Thread Name: Unusual MLB find From: teacherman2 at mac.com (CHRISTOPHER BURRUTO) Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2017 16:20:20 -0400 Hello all: Wondered if you could help me. I?ve been a collector of ML for about a hundred years. Give or take. Came across this at a book store. Here is a ML Edition of Kipling?s KIM. 1. The pages are uncut and are about 71/3 inches tall 2. The spine of the book is undamaged. There is no glue residue at all, and the paper is very clean. The normal binding process would push glue into this part of the text block. 3. I?m not sure what to make of the cloth bands? No ML I?ve seen has these. I?ve provided some more pictures?and I can take more? I thought it might be a pirated version, but the pages are of high quality. Chris Burruto PS Sorry about all the photos... https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0009.jpeg https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0010.jpeg https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0011.jpeg https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0012.jpeg https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0013.jpeg https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0014.jpeg https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0015.jpeg https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0016.jpeg https://thuban.owu.edu/pipermail/modlib/attachments/20170809/3604c32b/attachment-0017.jpeg ------------------------------------- From: bookscene at gmail.com (BookScene.com) Date: Wed, 9 Aug 2017 20:07:22 -0400 Seems to be an unbound copy, before they added the hardcover binding. Thank You, Neal ------------------------------------- From: teacherman2 at mac.com (CHRISTOPHER BURRUTO) Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2017 21:33:24 -0400 Thanks for the info Chris ------------------------------------- From: jbkrygier at owu.edu (John Krygier) Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2017 07:10:05 -0400 I recall a ML copy like this showing up here awhile back, but could not find the discussion in the list archives. As said, obviously a unbound copy. But why the dust jacket? Possibly sent out to a copy editor? It is a nice item: interesting to see what MLs look like prior to being trimmed and bound.
