Short Stories in the Modern Library
|
|
Remember the name of a favorite short story but can't remember who wrote it? You know it's in the Modern Library but you don't know where. No worries—below is a list of over 2,000 short stories that were published in the Modern Library between 1917 and 1991. Several volumes containing short stories have not been catalogued here; they may be one day. The volumes include: Tales of Grimm and Andersen, Subtreasury of American Humor, Parodies, Encyc. of Modern American Humor, Anthology of Irish Literature, and Irish Fairy & Folk Tales. A number of short stories appear in several volumes but for simplicity we reference just one here. The
short story titles link to more specific pages where you can often find
references to other Modern Library sources for the same
short story (for example, at the bottom of the
Hawthorne page).
Leading articles (A, An, and The) have been removed from short story titles. Click the story title to go to the page that holds an image of the book; click the author name to go to that author's page. Unlinked authors lack their own page in the Modern Library but you might find more by that author by searching the Index of Untomed Authors. You can sort by Title or Author. Sorting takes place on the server and can be slow; delays of up to five seconds are not uncommon. So it goes. With so many stories in the series, we may have missed a few. If you know of a short story that isn't listed here, please let us know. |
